arma virumque cano
-Virgil, Aeneid 1
Like Virgil, “I sing of arms and a man” - his are the Trojan War and pious Aeneas who lived to tell the tale of his war and travels. Mine are the battles in the war of addiction and recovery and the brave ones who live through it. Frost once penned that “writing a poem is discovering,” and these words ring true for me and all poets who set about choosing the mere words to represent the body of experience our work strives to capture.
